The Zambia national team yesterday arrived in South Africa to commence preparations for next Friday’s crucial Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier match against Ghana to be played in Kumasi.
The national team camp started yesterday in Johannesburg after the technical bench and 6 local players arrived at Milpark Hotel which will be the base for the Chipolopolo until they leave for Ghana on Wednesday next week.
And Renard has said his return to Ghana will be very emotional. It will be the first time the Frenchman will be returning to Ghana where he spent two years as assistant coach to Claude Le Roy for the Black Stars.
Renard further said he would be happy to beat Ghana and qualify Zambia to the World Cup.
“It will be a pleasure to beat Ghana but the 90 minutes will determine who will win,” Renard said.
The players who left with Renard on Thursday morning are the Red Arrows trio of Bruce Musakanya, Bronson Chama and Danny Munyau.
Others are Joshua Titima, Christopher Munthali, Kondwani Mtonga and Kabaso Chongo.
The next batch of players expected in camp are the PSL contingent of Kennedy Mweene, Joseph Musonda and Davies Nkausu whose clubs will be in action on Saturday.
FAZ Communications manager Eric Mwanza defended the decision to camp the team in Johannesburg saying apart from issues to do with the weather other considerations like player movement were factored in.
“As announced, we looked at many options in West and East. Joburg was best as we will maximize on time and have wonderful preps.”
“Look at the time we have for preps, player movement & all logistics: you need best plan to be ready & Joburg is,” Mwanza stated.
