A group of Chiefs from the Volta region trying to mend divisions between the National Democratic Congress founder, former President John Jerry Rawlings and President John Atta Mills have debunked suggestions that their action are partisan contrary to the 1992 constitution.According to the group, Royals for Peace and Development, their interest in the welfare of former President Rawlings, stems from the fact that latter is a prominent son from the region.The spokesperson for the delegation of traditional rulers, Togbe Hotormaho Amedzake III in an interview with Joy FM declined to give details about the outcome of the meeting, but said they will carefully weigh the concerns raised by the former president before attempting to address themDespite calls from some government officials that traditional leaders should be employed in the mediation between Rawlings and Mills, the group still maintains that their initiative is purely voluntary and is not backed by any political figure or body.Meanwhile, aide to Mr. Rawlings, Kofi Adams explained the former president told the chiefs a number of things had gone wrong within the party. He added that the former president has no ill will towards anyone.A number of chiefs and queen mothers from Southern Volta on Tuesday met with former President Jerry Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu in the latest attempt to mend divisions within the ruling NDC.According to the spokesperson for the delegation, the visit was to afford the traditional rulers a better understanding of the issues fuelling the intra-party divisions.
