The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has questioned the motive behind the outbursts of the former first family, J.J. Rawlings and wife Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). Kwesi Pratt, speaking on Peace FM’s morning show, Kokrokoo, said Mr. Rawlings even falls short on his own principles of probity and accountability. He cited Nana Konadu’s role in the divestiture of state owned companies like GIHOC and GNTC which he said would not pass the probity and accountability test they are professing. According to Kwesi Pratt, the former first family must put a stop to their demand for probity and accountability from the Mills-led government as their tenure in office was equally bedeviled with issues of corruption. The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper further said some of the demands being made by Mr. Rawlings are not tenable citing the call for arrest of former functionaries in the erstwhile Kufuor administration. He said it is time Ghanaians confront Rawlings over his utterances rather than seeking individual advantages on such occasions. According to Kwesi Pratt, Ghanaians are tired of the Rawlingses who he said have hijacked the country since 1979. He questioned whether Ghana belongs to the former first family due to their consistent criticisms of ruling government. The New Patriotic Party’s deputy Director of Communications, John Boadu who was also the programme said the Rawlingses are not the only people to have criticised the Mills-led government. He said many party functionaries are equally disillusioned with the performance of the government. According to John Boadu, instead of the Mils-led administration to provide solutions to his critics, he rewards them with appointments to neutralise those criticisms. He named Alban Bagbin, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, E.T. Mensah as those rewarded with appointments to forestall further criticisms. The Deputy Communications Director of NPP said the NDC must bear the brunt of the Rawlingses after they supported them in criticizing then ruling NPP on several occasions.
