The United States Ambassador to Ghana, Donald Teitelbaum is facing a big dilemma as his country plays Ghana’s Black Stars on Saturday in the 1/16th knock-out stage of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
While Mr Teitelbaum would love Africa, represented almost solely by Ghana, to take a respectable place in the tournament, he hopes his country progresses to the quarter final stage of the World Cup.
Thirty days to the start of the games, Mr Teitelbaum had said, "I will be rooting for Ghana in every single one of their World Cup matches, except one, and that is if they face the United States in the round of sixteen. Go Black Stars!"
Now he tells Joy News, “I would like to see Africa have the kind of recognition and place it deserves in this World Cup.”
He reminded both teams that “I think you have to fight for whatever you get [in this match].” “Anybody who lets their guard or takes something for granted will be making a big a mistake,” he added.
The Ambassador said citizens of both countries will like to see a great game “they can respect and even cheer a brilliant play whether it is by their opponent or not.”
Demonstrating he has been following the performance of the Stars keenly, Mr Teitelbaun said “I think we have to watch your Ghanaian side. Frankly, Asamoah Gyan has been scoring, Kevin-Prince Boateng is really someone who is aggressive and out there and creating a lot of [chances], good luck to Ghana, I’m looking forward to the match, I’m looking forward to seeing a great game.”
