Supporters of beleaguered businessman Alfred Woyome despite vowing to expose government officials they claim are behind attempts to persecute him, have failed to name any names.
Prior to addressing a press conference at which they promised to expose the officials, the spokesperson of the group, David Tamakloe, said names of people in government trying to bring down Mr Woyome, will be mentioned.
An Accra high court yesterday denied Mr. Woyome bail after he was arrested Friday evening last week over charges of fraud.
He and three others, including a Chief State Attorney, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh, his wife, Gifty Nerquaye-Tetteh and Paul Asimenu, a Director at the Legal Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning have been charged with six counts including conspiracy to defraud and defrauding by false pretense.
They pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Spokesperson for a group calling itself, “Free Woyome Campaign” David Tamakloe had told Joy News some government officials were uncomfortable with Mr Woyome’s growing influence in the NDC.
They, therefore, conspired and orchestrated his prosecution in order to cut him to size, he claimed.
He declined to name any person but maintained his argument was grounded in facts.
“Most of them have personal agenda and you would realize that over the weekend, after the arrest of Alfred Woyome, you heard some government spokesperson trying very hard to make us believe that Alfred Woyome is not a member of the NDC or has got nothing to do with the NDC and they tried so hard to bastardize him so you clearly see what their interest is,” he told Joy News’ Anny Osabutey.
But Anny Osabutey who was at the press conference said journalists were left disappointed and some angry when the group failed to name the people they claimed were conspiring against Mr Woyome.
