Frank Edem Adofoli, a counsellor and alternative dispute resolution practitioner, has weighed in on how beneficial Yvonne Nelson’s book I am not Yvonne Nelson will be to her.
Stories about the Ghanaian actress inundated the media space after she launched her memoir I am not Yvonne Nelson on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at the Peduase Lodge.
The book which basically chronicles events leading to Yvonne's search for her real father invokes different sentiments among people.
Speaking to Kwame Dadzie, on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces show on Wednesday, Counsellor Adofoli noted that despite the fact that the book might bring conflict or offend other people, he believes it could be of a great benefit to Yvonne’s mental health.
“First, this is good for her therapeutically. When you do therapy it is about conversation. But in the counseling setting it is going to be in a safe environment. Because we don’t want to let you feel same or guilt. That confidentiality is there.
But when you are okay and you want to put it out there, then it means you have been able to to overcome a lot of things,” he noted.
According to the counsellor, coming out to tell her story will also be a great lesson to a lot of young people and parents.
The book, I am not Yvonne Nelson captures events such as her relationship with rapper Sarkodie which led to an abortion that she regrets ever having, total dislike from the man who was supposed to be her father, an offer by the New Patriotic Party to contest parliamentary seat at the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency and her undying quest to find her biological father - a situation which has caused a chink in her relationship with her mother.
While some think it was right for her to tell her story through the book, there are others who are also considering the ripple effects of the accounts on the other people involved.
Joy FM's Twitter Spaces show, Joy Entertainment Unpacked, hosted by entertainment journalist Kwame Dadzie, airs on Wednesdays at 8pm on Joy FM's Twitter handle.
