Despite lacking police permit, a thousand self-acclaimed activists of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) are lacing their boots to rally support for President John Mahama's government on Republic Day Tuesday.
"We are not demonstrating. We don't need a police permit. We are calling for a march", the group's leader Koku Mawuli told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Monday.
He explained that Ghanaians need to support the President in view of Ghana's economic hardship.
"We are in difficult times I am not going to run away from that. [But] we have to be with him. He needs support to be able to deliver".
Their demonstration coincides with another protest against the government for the harsh economic conditions following acute fuel shortage, increases in utility tariffs and an imminent fuel price increase.
Itemizing reasons for the march, the NDC activist said the group wants to drive home support for President Mahama's campaign to patronise Made-In-Ghana goods.
He said Ghanaians need to cut down on the importation of rice because the seemingly unquenchable appetite for foreign products purchased with dollars is the reason for the cedi's depreciation.
"We just want to rally support for the president for his good intentions and policies", Koku affirmed.
