Fifteen persons perished in a fatal accident on the Obuasi-Dunkwa-On Offin road in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday morning.
Eight of the deceased died on the spot when two vehicles collided head-long at around 1100 hours between Awona and Suhyenso near Obuasi.
Three of them died whilst being transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) with three losing their lives later at Obuasi Government Hospital (OGH). One person also died at the Anglo Gold Ashanti Hospital.
So far 12 of the passengers whose conditions are said to be critical have been referred to the KATH whilst 10 others are on admission at the OGH.
According to the medical Superintendent, Dr. Eric Nsiah Boakye their conditions are medically manageable.
Superintendent Owuahene Acheampong, Obuasi Divisional Commander of the Motor, Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service, said the two vehicles involved in the accident ply between Kumasi and Tarkwa.
He said information available indicated that the driver of one of the vehicles was from Kumasi with terrific speed and as a result lost control of the steering wheel which led to the accident.
