An Anti-Telecommunication Fraud taskforce has arrested three persons including a teenager for SIM box fraud.
The criminal activities of the three have for the past four months, cost the nation over $200,000 loss..
Eric Akpanya, Selasi Dopernyo and a 16-year old were arrested on July 6 at a hide-out in Tema Community 12, Hno B56.
The Police seized two Sim boxes, 700 MTN Sim cards, 100 Airtel recharge cards, 100 Tigo recharge cards, one gen set, a laptop, 16 antennas and two heavy duty batteries.
The arrest was effected through the collaborative work of the Criminal Investigations Department, National Communications Authority (NCA) and telecoms operating in the country.
Technical support for the task force is being provided by Subah Info Solutions.
There is a national crackdown on Sim box fraud believed to be costing government and telecos huge revenue losses.
Between December 2014 and July this year, three separate SIM Box fraud detections projects have been carried.
According to figures from Subah Info Solutions, the state has lost a total of $65,494,424 to SIM Box fraudsters.
A former boss of Ghana Real Estates Developers Association (GREDA), Dr Alexander Tweneboah, and nine others were arrested in January 2015, by the Anti-Telecommunication Fraud taskforce.
The police allege that the activities of the suspects in the Tweneboah case caused $33 million financial loss to the state.
