Two students of Accra Academy have been arrested by the police for looting a boutique during a robbery escapade. The two final-year Senior High School (SHS) students, Benjamin Adosu, 19 and Francis Obeng, 18, were part of a gang of four students from Accra Academy who stormed Papish Culture Boutique at Dzorwulu, a suburb of Accra and robbed the shop on Thursday afternoon. Luck eluded the students when, after robbing the boutique at gunpoint, residents and a policeman around prevented them from escaping with their loot. The two student robbers are in the custody of the Kotobabi Police, with police hunting the other two who managed to escape. The mother of Adosu, upon hearing the information, rushed to the Kotobabi Police Station but collapsed the moment she saw her son. She was immediately rushed to the hospital. One of the suspects being looked for his deed is in his final year whilst the other is in his third. Benjamin Adosu is a Business student whilst Francis Obeng is a General Arts student. The suspects on the run, Richard Anane, 19, and Bramah Mohammed, 18 are General Arts and Business students respectively. Narrating the story to Daily Guide, ASP John Coffie, Crime Officer with the Kotobabi District Police, said on Thursday, December 8, 2011, around 2:00p.m, he received information that four robbers in Accra Academy school uniform had attacked and robbed Papish Culture Boutique at Queens Star Plaza, Dzorwulu, at gunpoint. “When we got to the place, the police patrol team had already been there and arrested two of the students and a taxi driver whose cab was used for the operation.” According to ASP Coffie, the suspects, before the operations, had visited the shop on three consecutive occasions without buying anything. On all the three occasions, the boys asked of the prices of items and left with a promise to come back. He said the suspects, an hour before embarking on the operations, visited the shop on Thursday without buying anything. They asked the attendants numerous questions including the prices of the items and left. “When they came back around 2:00p.m the same day, all the four suspects were holding school bags.” One of the suspects, according to ASP Coffie, asked the attendant of the shop to show him the washroom and on their way there, another student pulled a sharp knife and a pistol, ordering the attendant not to make any noise. They then pushed him into the washroom. With the help of the other suspects, they hit the attendant with some metals before tying him up with a rope and locking him inside the washroom. According to him, the attendant peeped through a hole from the washroom, watching the suspects picking and loading every item they could lay hands on. DSP Coffie said the attendant managed to untie the rope immediately the suspects stepped outside. He then shouted for assistance and jumped onto the bonnet of the Kia Pride cab with registration number GW 8398 Y, driven by one Abdullai Musa, 25. Neighbours who saw what was happening started chasing the taxi cab, throwing stones and other objects at it. About 300 yards from the crime scene, a policeman who was passing by succeeded in blocking the taxi. In the process, two of the students- Richard Anane and Bramah Mohammed- immediately jumped from the cab and escaped. The police patrol team, however, was able to arrest the taxi driver, Abdullai Musa, Benjamin Adosu, and Francis Obeng.
