The police have arrested two students who were part of a stealing syndicate that harassed residents of Bolgatanga, especially those at the SSNIT Flats and the Bolgatanga Estates.
They are Razak Elise, 22, of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic and believed to be leader of the group, and Majeed Sumani, 18, a junior high school student.
The Bolgatanga District Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Godson Letsyo, told newsmen that the group operated mainly in the afternoons when workers had left for work.
He said because the group had sent their booty to Accra for sale, the police found it difficult to carry out investigations into the case.
He said when the police conducted a search in the houses of the suspects, some items were retrieved.
He said police patrol had been intensified in the residential areas and asked the people to go about their duties without fear.
ASP Letsyo warned that the police would deal drastically with criminals in the area.
