Benin beat Senegal to qualify for next year’s African Youth Championship, while 2011 beaten finalists Cameroon were eliminated by DR Congo.
Benin recorded a double over Senegal on Saturday courtesy of an 85th minute winner by Raimi Kola in Dakar to advance to Algeria 2013 on a 4-1 aggregate.
The little West African nation will feature in their second AYC after they hosted the 2005 edition of the competition and qualified to play in that year’s FIFA U20 World Cup.
However, last year’s AYC runners-up Cameroon will not be in Algeria in March after they lost 4-1 to DRC on Saturday.
They thus crashed out on a 4-3 aggregate having won the first game 2-0 at home.
Gabon will also be in Algeria after they defeated Burkina Faso 2-0 at home to advance 4-2 on aggregate.
Mali also booked their passage to the biennial tournament proper after they dumped Zambia 3-0 in Bamako.
The first clash ended in a 2-2 draw.
The final three qualifiers will be played on Sunday.
Nigeria will host South Africa after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Nelspruit, while Ghana take a 4-1 advantage to Morocco.
Egypt will defend a 2-1 home win in Angola in the other match of the qualifying series.
Algeria have qualified automatically as the host nation.
In Summary:
Mali 3-0 Zambia
RD Congo 4-1 Cameroon
Senegal 0-1 Benin
Sunday matches coming up
Nigeria - South Africa
Angola - Egypt
Morocco - Ghana
