The National Service Secretariat (NSS) has deployed two thousand, three hundred and nineteen (2,319) National Service Personnel (NSP) to the Upper West Region for the 2010/11 service year.
Mr. Joseph Bati, the NSS Regional Office Administrator, in an interview with the GNA in Wa, said the figure was historic as compared to previous service years.
"It will undoubtedly boost the strength and mandate of the service in the region", he emphasized.
He said out of the 2,319 deployed, about 1884 representing 81.24% had been posted to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to teach.
He said the secretariat's target was to fill all the empty classes created as a result of the lack of teachers.
Mr. Bati said 234 of the personnel representing 10.09 per cent were posted to Ministries, Departments and Agencies while private and Non Governmental Organisations also took 12 representing 0.52 per cent.
According to the Administrator, the health sector also received 150 personnel with 39 of them posted to the tertiary institutions representing 6.47 per cent and 1.68 per cent respectively.
Mr. Bati noted that so far 1,072 of the service personnel posted to various districts had already reported as at the end of October, 31.
