Four people have died following a fatal road crash on the Buipe–Tamale highway, after a Sprinter Benz bus collided with a hit-and-run trailer truck at Sawaba No. 2.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, involving a Sprinter bus with registration number AS 9332-17, which was travelling from Buipe to Kumasi.
The Ghana National Fire Service said its Buipe Fire Command responded swiftly to the scene after the crash.
Before firefighters arrived, 19 passengers had already been rescued and rushed to the Buipe Government Hospital for treatment.
Rescue teams later extricated three more victims who were trapped in the wreckage of the minibus.
Despite the efforts, four people—two men and two women—lost their lives. Three were pronounced dead at the scene, while another died later at the hospital.
The bodies of those who died at the scene were handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.
The Fire Service said the Sprinter bus sustained extensive damage in the crash.
Preliminary findings suggest the trailer truck caused the collision before fleeing the scene.
Officials say the timely intervention by the Buipe Fire Station crew helped prevent further casualties and ensured that survivors received urgent medical care.
The operation was led by Station Officer II Abubakar M. Sheriff.
