Six houses have been burnt in Protor near Kintampo North in the Brong Ahafo as factions in age-old chieftaincy dispute exchange gun fire.
This follows a long-standing chieftaincy dispute that led to the departure of one of the chiefs.
About six houses have been burnt with some residents saying they are leaving town.
It’s not clear what sparked the violence, but residents fear a misunderstanding between the two sides may degenerate into a full-blown battle in the area.
The township is divided into two sides with each side having its own chief.
Joy News’ reporter Anass Sabit said residents told him one of the chiefs, Bawa, left the town after clashes seven years ago and upon his return, the other side demanded he leaves town, as he's not needed in the town.
Some angry youth at about 0800GMT Friday started shooting in protest of Bawa's arrival.
The Kintampo police are on the ground trying to restore calm.
The police declined to speak on record saying they are on the ground and will answer questions later.
