Voting is underway in six regions to elect unit committee and assembly members.
It is day three of the elections which have suffered a lot of rescheduling. Joy News correspondents monitoring the elections report of low voter turnout in most of the areas.
Joy News’ Nana Yaa Fynn-Thompson who has been going round some of the polling stations in Accra said out of the 10 polling centres she visited, only one recorded significant voter turn-out.
At some polling stations, though there were no security personnel present, the process was peaceful and orderly.
At Kasoa Offankor DC primary in Accra, voting was disrupted temporarily by some electorate. It took the intervention of police to restore calm.
A witness to the disturbance, Samuel Kweku said a group of people who don’t come from the electoral area came and formed a queue. They abandoned the place and hopped into their vehicle when confronted by the police.
From the Central Region, Correspondent Richard Kojo Nyarko reports that 167 electoral areas that were not able to vote on Tuesday are voting today.
He said voter turn-out was better than witnessed Tuesday – a situation he attributed to the excitement generated on Tuesday when some winners jubilated after the declaration of results.
Correspondent Mahama Shaibu reports from the Northern Region that voting was generally peaceful except for some few areas where violence was recorded.
At the EP Church electoral area, supporters of two aspirants, he said, engaged in a free-for-all fight for about 30 minutes, stopping only when a police cum military contingent stormed the area. The groups had accused each other of cheating.
In the Upper East Region, correspondent Joseph Osei also reports that most residents are not willing to forgo work to vote.
But it is not all districts in the region that are participating in the polls today.
Residents of Atosale/Azaasi in the Upper East region say there are no EC officials to organize elections there.
