Government has given the assurance it will assist firms that source majority of their inputs locally.
This follows concerns by some manufacturing firms that it is becoming increasingly expensive to produce in Ghana.
The development has seen some firms re-locating their production units outside the country.
But speaking at a dinner for clients of FINATRADE Group, Information Minister, Mahama Ayarigah said this challenge will soon be over.
“...Government remains very committed to a programme to assist companies like you to go just beyond importing and distributing to sourcing these food products and processing them and not just distributing in Ghana but becoming major exporters of these products," the minister noted.
He added that the president believes Ghana should be self-sufficient in food production in order to ensure food security and therefore government will partner firms that are ready to ensure the nation achieves this.
Chairman of the FINATRADE Group, Nabil Moukarzel told Joy News the group plans to focus more on local production and less importation this year.
