A 28-year-old man at Ahwiaa, a suburb of Kumasi, has butchered his wife and committed suicide in a fit of jealousy.
Kwadwo Owusu, a watch seller, accused his wife, Afia Tawiah, 25, of infidelity and inflicted machete wounds on her leading to her death at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).He fled thereafter but his body was later found hanging from a tree in the local cemetery.A police source told the Daily Graphic that the two were married and had two children. At about 10 a.m. on October 17, this year, Afia informed the man that she wanted to visit her sick mother in the Sefwi area.Owusu refused to allow the woman to travel, accusing her of only attempting to get the opportunity to visit her boyfriend. The source said the woman denied the allegation but a fierce exchange of words ensued between them.According to the police, the man left the house and returned at about 4.30 p.m. the same day when the woman was cooking, raising the accusation against her once again. This resulted in another round of verbal exchanges and in the process the man entered the room and brought out a machete with which he inflicted several wounds on the woman. The police said that Owusu fled after the act and the police at Mamponteng were consequently informed.Afia was sent to KATH where one of her hands was amputated, and she remained on admission until she died on October 22.According to the police, on October 29, they had information that someone was hanging dead at the cemetery and some policemen were dispatched to the scene. While there, the father of Owusu came to identify him as his son who was being sought for by the Police.Source: Daily Graphic
