It appears heads of the country's power generation and transmitting firms hold different views on plans to fully privatizing the sector.
Government as part of its efforts to improve power supply has opened the sector to bring on board, private or independent power producers. Speaking on a television talk show, TIME WITH DAVID, Chief Executive of Volta River Authority Kweku Awotwi argued that privatization would help improve service delivery in the sector.
Chief Executive of the Ghana Grid Company Charles Darku says this will give consumers real option, alternatives and bring about competition.
But Managing Director of Electricity of Company of Ghana, William Hutton-Mensah disagreed. According to him, "there are companies in China that are state owned and they are doing very well".
"I believe that whether private or state owned, there certain ingredients that a company should have", he added,.
Chief Executive of the Ghana National Gas Company, George Sipa-Yankey also made a strong case for energy generation insisting it should be in the hands of the state. He adds the problem has been with interference from politicians in running the sector and not state management.
The New series of TIME WITH DAVID which focuses on the power sector airs on MULTI-TV this every Saturday at 7:30 pm.
