The University Students Association of Ghana (USAG) has congratulated women on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The Association stated that the occasion for women to soberly reflect the past, present and the way forward in order to rebrand themselves, to create the change they seek and to make an impact in the world. This was contained in a statement signed by Sophia Sandow, Women’s Commissioner of the Association and released to the press in Wa. ‘‘As a young female leader, I would like to congratulate all my fellow vibrant, strong, and intelligent female leaders all over the globe and more especially Ghana for their good work done. Kudos to you all,’’ she stated. She used the opportunity to thank President John Dramani Mahama for appointing some women as substantive ministers of the country even though she conceded the number is not enough. ‘‘We are very grateful to him for having the courage and hope in these hard working women. It is my wish that more women will be appointed to fill more positions as more appointments are still on his hat ready to be released’’. The statement also called on the government to pay more attention to the needs and issues concerning women because there are the most vulnerable in the society. ‘‘We are truly proud of you, but as the mantle of leadership has been vested in you, I wish to plead that you make all women very proud by working to [the] expectation of all, despite the challenges you may find yourselves in,’’ the statement concluded.
