A leading member of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Dr. Kwaku Osafo has stressed the need for Ghanaians to rediscover and reclaim the country and its resources in a non-confrontational manner from foreigners. He said the party was much concerned about the rampant sale of the nation's assets and resources to foreigners and it behoved the people to rally behind the party to reclaim them. Addressing the executive committee meeting of the Ashanti Regional branch of the party in Kumasi on Friday, Dr Osafo called on Ghanaians to strive to protect the assets and resources bestowed on the nation by its founding Leader, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, adding that assets of the nation ought to be in the ownership of Ghanaians. He pointed out that Ghana needed a visionary leader, who thought about how the people could utilize their own resources for development and not depend on foreigners to develop the country. Dr Osafo, who is also a founding member of the Patriots, an organ of the CPP said Ghanaians needed to use the 50th Anniversary celebration of the nation to review its shortcomings and tell the truth by giving deserving recognition to the ingenuity and achievements of Dr Kwame Nkrumah. He said Ghanaians were yearning for a CPP government to take over the reigns of the nation and it was incumbent on members to re-organise the party structures at all levels and reposition it to capture political power. Dr Osafo stressed the need to rejuvenate the party and said the Patriots were going round the tertiary institutions in the country to sell the party to the youth. The Patriots were also mobilizing financial and material resources to open up offices and provide logistics to the party in all the constituencies. Dr. Osafo commended senior members of the party for their dedicated services over the years and urged them to open their doors to embrace the youth to re-energies the party for the 2008 elections, adding that, the CPP had a lot of goodwill to win the elections. Mr Kwasi Prempeh, former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party expressed concern about the non-involvement of CPP members who fought for the independence in its 50th Anniversary celebrations. He appealed to party executives to embark on effective organisation to win more souls for the party. Dr J.A. Amoateng, First Regional Vice Chairman, appealed to members to commit themselves and work hard to win souls for the party. He said the party had been able to open additional constituency offices in the region and urged members to pay their dues regularly to improve the financial position of the party. Source GNA
