In an attempt to appeal to Muslim voters come election season next year, NDC presidential candidate and former president John Mahama joined leadership and supporters at the Madina Central Mosque in Accra March 1.
The Thanksgiving service was to applaud Mahama for his victorious win last Saturday after clinching NDC’s nomination. The presidential candidate pulled slightly less than 100% of votes from a pool of six others who ran to become the party’s flagbearer.

Mahama “thanked the party's supporters and well wishers for the hard work and commitment over the last two years, urging them to remain together and build a united front ahead of the 2020 electioneering campaign,” a press statement reads.
Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak, National Vice Chairmen Chief Azorka and Said Sinare, and two of the aspirants in last Saturday's election, Goosie Tanoh and Nurudeen Iddrisu were also present at the event.
The former president also invited supporters to attend Saturday morning’s Thank You walk that began from Kawukudi Park through Pig Farm, Accra New Town, Nima, Maamobi and will end at Elwak Sports Stadium. On Sunday, a Christian Thanksgiving service will be held at the Perez Chapel at Dzorwulu.
