The Consul General of Ghana in New York has advised Ghanaians living abroad to come together to effectively and productively deal with challenges they face with their respective city and state institutions.
He made this call when he was addressing section of Ghanaians and others, who had come to witness the flag raising of Ghana at the City Office in Newark, New Jersey on March 7, to commemorate the 62nd Independence Day of Ghana.
Ghana Flag Raising is an event organised by the Newark Municipal Council in collaboration with the Ghanaian community each year, to commemorate the Independence of Ghana.

The Mayor of Newark, Ras J. Baraka, in his opening remarks, expressed his happiness to be part of the celebration because of his belief in diversity and his affinity with Ghanaians and Ghana.
The Mayor is married to Linda Jumah, daughter of Maxwell Kofi Jumah, CEO of GIHOC Distilleries, former MP of Asokwa and former Chief Executive of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
He revealed that his re-election campaign message, “Forward Ever Backward Never” was inspired by a statement from Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana.
Ras J. Baraka called for Ghanaians to come together and understand that his office is opened to them always.
The Consul General at Consulate of Ghana in New York, Professor Samuel Amoako in his address, admonished the people to be united.
“We need unity at home and in the diaspora. In the diaspora, we need unity among individuals, we need unity among Associations and we need unity among our Chiefs,” he stated.
According to Prof. Amoako: “If we unite it will be easy and extremely efficient and productive to deal with State and City Institutions and access the help and support that we need and deserve as Ghanaians.
“It will equally be easy to interact with our Missions, Embassies and Consulates General. With Unity, we will speak with one voice.”
The event was well attended by traditional and opinion leaders in the Ghanaian community in New Jersey.
