Under the Planting For Export And Rural Development flagship programme by the Akufo Addo led government, about 250,000 oil palm seedlings will be distributed free of charge to farmers within Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region who make land available in the coming days.
Dennis Miracle Aboagye, the area Municipal Chief Executive who disclosed this to DGN Online after inspecting four ongoing projects sites in the Municipality was impressed with the rate at which the project is progressing.
The four projects sites under the 1District 1Factory are; a 5-tons a day Oil Palm Processing Factory at Yensiso, 40,000 Bird Poultry and Meat processing Factory at Apasare, 250,000 Coffee Seedling nursery at Kwamoso and a 600,000 Oil Palm Nursery farm at Akwateakwaso.s
He assured the farmers that the government will continue to support the programme in order for it to be a continued success and also to be of great benefit to the Municipality.
The programme will create jobs increase revenue for farmers and also serve as an incentive for people especially the youth to enter into farming.
He said the oil palm development program is geared towards providing the needed raw material base for the oil palm proceeding factory under construction currently on ongoing at the visited communities.
The Akuapem North MCE noted that ‘’this project is being developed by the minerals commission as part of the Anti-Galamsey Drive by the government to be distributed to the galamsey communities as part of empowering’’.
‘’These 4 projects are cumulatively going to engage at least 450 permanent staff on the factory floors and nursery sites, and we would also engage at least 1,200 farmers producing raw materials on a 6,000-acre land’’ he disclosed.
He explained that in the next 18 months,’’ we will be commissioning the first ever factory to be built and operated in Akuapem North Municipality’’.
