Ghana’s World Cup qualifier opponents Sudan were beaten 2-0 by Ethiopia on Sunday in a friendly match to mark OAU/AU’s 50th anniversary.
The match was used by both sides to prepare for the upcoming double qualifiers in 2014 finals in Brazil.
Saladin Bargecho, who was part of Ethiopia’s CECAFA team last year but could not make it to Uganda due to passport issues, opened the scoring on 60 minutes later after receiving a low cross from a Behailu Assefa corne
r.
Sudan, then, pushed for an equalizer by throwing men forward but this move made them susceptible for a counter attack as made evident by Ethiopia’s second goal.
Getaneh Kebede received a long ball from the defence and passed it through to Behailu Assefa who controlled the ball and crossed it low.
Despite being partially blocked by a Sudanese defender, the ball managed to find Addis Hintsa who scored the second goal with a simple tap-in.
Sudan will host the Black Stars in Khartoum on 7 June in a Group D qualifier.
They lost the corresponding fixture 4-0 in Kumasi in March this year.
