The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has hosted a telecoms industry workshop to enhance the capacity of technical officers in the area of Quality of Service.
Participants agreed to embark on a joint and co-ordinated public education campaign against fake phones, which negatively affects the quality of service and experience of consumers.
Joachim Pomy, an independent telecoms expert and ITU consultant facilitated the day workshop. He discussed into detail the concepts of network performance, quality of service and customer experience for voice and data, as well as international best practice in regulation.
The full day workshop brought together almost 50 representatives from the National Communication Authority (NCA), network operators, equipment vendors and infrastructure companies to deepen knowledge and facilitate knowledge sharing.
“We created an opportunity and the space for expert conversations on these areas as part of a consultative approach towards narrowing the divergence among industry stakeholders in the area of quality of service parameters, definitions and methodologies. Kwaku Sakyi-Addo, CEO of the Chamber said.
“It’s important stakeholders meet at this level to discuss relevant issues on the matter of QoS to ensure customers are provided better services and operators are guaranteed their expected revenue” says Zakaria Osman, Technical Director, GIFEC.
Fake and sub-standard phones were also exposed as devices that create network difficulties and yield bad QoS for users.
Participants also agreed to establish a sub-committee to focus on specific areas of divergence and for further follow up among key stakeholders.
