The Essipong Sports Stadium which was built for the Ghana 2008 Cup of Nations, is on the path to becoming dilapidated.Sometime last year, JOY Sports reported on TV and radio how various structures in the spectator stands and in some offices were damaged.The tartan tracks, metal structures and parts of the main car park are in a state of despair.The stadium was built on a swamp around the Essipong River and as a result, has the tartan tracks becoming water-logged whenever it rains.This means the venue will not be able to host major athletic competitions or high profile football matches.The finishing line of the tartan tracks has sunk 3cm into the ground. Parts of the car park have also sunk into the ground and usually hold a lot of water after rains.Western Regional Sports Development Officer, Beresford Ogbaami Amui Mensah told JOY Sports “several complaints have been sent to our bosses at the National Sports Authority and even to government, but we have not been given any funds. We have even sent pictures and videos of the damaged areas but if help is not coming, what can you do? ”He added; “if there are funds, we can even do this in one day because it isn’t any major problem.”
