AshantiGold Sporting Club are threatening to boycott their penultimate Ghana Premier League match against Asante Kotoko if the Essipong venue is not changed. The Premier League Board has directed the game which was initially scheduled for the Baba Yara Stadium to be played in Sekondi, as a result of a home match ban placed on Asante Kotoko for crowd violence.Ashgold who are chasing a top four finish, are unhappy about the situation, claiming the distance to be covered will rather serve as punishment to them when it actually should be at an advantage.Chief Executive Officer of the miners Cudjoe Fianoo laments “we have not committed any offence, we would have stayed in Obuasi, travelled to Kumasi to play Kotoko at no cost but now we are being sent to Essipong and we will have to travel for about 300km.We will need to get there on Saturday and stay overnight and this is coming at a huge cost to us through no fault of ours.”Cudjoe Fianoo is asking “the GFA to foot the bill of the overnight stay, and nothing short of that. We can’t raise any budget now and what we’ve been expecting from Glo is also not coming. So if we don’t get this from the FA, then it means they are telling us not to play Sunday’s game.”Ashgold currently lie sixth on the league table, having amassed 44 points from twenty-eight games.
