The World Bank has conducted training program in soap making for selected women through its skills development fund in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
The women who hitherto were involved in soap making in smaller quantities have upgraded their skills and can make quality soaps in large quantities to boost their businesses and improve their standard of living.
The administrators of the SDF are urging small scale skilled businesses to take advantage of the fund to improve their standard of living.
Central Regional correspondent Richard Kwadwo Nyarko reported the skills development programme is a government of Ghana initiative funded by the World Bank as well as DANIDA.
He said the Cape Coast Cluster of soap makers were awarded a $50,000 grant and were taken through how to apply the latest fragrances in the production of liquid soaps as well as bar soaps which will be competitive in the world.
The women hitherto produced 200 bars of soap per week but can now produce the same quantity at a higher quality in four hours.
The women were grateful for the opportunity. The leader of the group Fatima Ewudzi said the quality of the soaps they are producing now is of high quality.
