The Atwima Nwabiagya District Road Safety Committee has initiated a programme to ensure safety on roads during the Christmas season.
Speaking at a meeting at Nkawie to outline details of the exercise Mr. Yaw Boateng, chairman of the committee, said the district had been divided into three zones, namely Nkawie, Abuakwa and Suame to ensure successful coverage.
He said the first exercise, which would start on December 5, would involve checking of excessive speed, drunkenness, wearing of undesirable footwear by drivers and their mates as well as un-authorized parking on roadsides that had the tendency of posing danger to both motorists and pedestrians.
Mr. Boateng cautioned drivers plying the routes in the district to be abreast with traffic regulations to avoid any sanctions.
He appealed for maximum co-operation by drivers, pedestrians and the committee to ensure an accident-free Christmas.
