This summer’s biggest transfer saga took an unfortunate twist late last night as The Daily Star revealed that their sources have confirmed that a death threat was issued to Tottenham’s Gareth Bale.
The Welshman is currently embroiled in an ongoing saga over a potential move to La Liga giants Real Madrid, and The Daily Star‘s report states that an unidentified person called the club’s training ground on Sunday to leave a brief death threat for the club’s star player.
According to the report, Bale wasn’t at the training ground at the time of the call, but the club have ramped up security accordingly following the threat.
Gareth Bale was a notable absentee from the club’s most recent friendly against Ligue 1 giants Monaco, but the club have confirmed that his absence was due to a muscle strain that he continues to struggle with.
Spurs supporters will also readily acknowledge that many of the club’s big name players missed the 5-2 thrashing in Monaco, downplaying any evidence of an imminent transfer of Bale to Madrid.
Real Madrid have not hidden their interest in last season’s PFA Player of the Year, but up to this point Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has once again remained firm in his desire to keep hold of the player.
