The Odorkor Police have rescued a 7-year-old boy from the grips of his father who had been chaining him to a tree in his home at Mataheko to prevent him from getting aggressive and running away from home.
The 84-year old polygamous father, Issah Haridinu, restrains the child in the morning and only releases him when it is time for him to go to bed in the evening.
Police say when they got the house, the boy was lying on the floor naked. They said he was weak and hungry and there was a gaping wound on his back. The chains were lying close by his frail, dirty body.
District Commander in charge of Odorkor Police, Superintendent Abraham Acquaye, told Joy News' Anna Agyepong the practice has been going on for over a year until they were tipped off on Tuesday August 6.
The father of the child told Police because the boy was very aggressive the only way he could control him was to put him in chains.
Police picked the father on Tuesday, but he has been granted bail. Police say they are preparing to take the matter to court.
"We have proffered a charge [on the child's father] of exposing the child to harm and negligence...he has neglected his duty as a father by exposing him [child] to the weather [as well as] assault", Police said.
The child had been living with this mother until he was brought to his father a year ago.
Although the child is receiving treatment at the Police Hospital, the whereabouts of his real mother is not known.
