The defending champions in the 2019 National Science and Maths Quiz have taken a step closer to retaining the title after a narrow win Friday evening over Kpando SHS and T.I. Amass, Kumasi.
St. Peter’s Boys’ SHS hit 54 points at the end of the fourth and penultimate round and it was enough to send them into the semis.
Although they couldn’t answer any of the four riddles in the final round, Kpasec was far too behind on points to catch up and T.I. Amass failed to close the eight-point gap after they answered only one riddle for three points.
St Peter’s, three-time champions, led the contest from Round one to finish, exerting their dominance over their challengers.
Their only point of fault in the game besides the no-show in the final round was the Problem of the Day where they scored just three out of ten points.
That wouldn’t matter to them now as they have a keen semifinal to prepare for.
Standing between the Nwatia-based school and the grand finale is Tepa SHS and Cape Coast’s Wesley Girls’ SHS.
The contest ended with the scores at: St Peter’s, 54pts – T.I. Amass, Kumasi 49 – Kpando SHS, 17pts.
