An HIV/AIDS awareness campaign has been held at Essam near Akim Oda to educate the people about the causes, effects, symptoms and the dangers associated with the virus and how to prevent it.
The day's programme organised on Thursday by the Assembly Member of the area, Mr. Reginald Sackey, was the fifth in two months.
The participants made up of chiefs, farmers, traders and the youth groups in the town were taken through mode of transmission, negative impact of the HIV/AIDS on agriculture and the proper use of contraceptives through demonstrations.
Mr. Sackey, who led the three resource persons of the programme, urged the participants to impart what they had learnt to the people to make the campaign a success.
He appealed to religious leaders to teach their members about abstinence from sex as the best means of avoiding the virus.Source: GNA
