Once bitten twice shy. But not for Grant alias Francis. Once remanded for armed robbery but set free under the "Justice For All" programme, he persisted in his former ways- armed robbery. He would not be able to do so anymore- He was shot dead Wednesday.
The “Justice for all Programme” is an initiative by the Judicial Service to ensure people on remand for more than five years without trial were given a fair hearing by the courts.
The Police shot dead the beneficiary after he and another robber engaged the security forces in a shoot-out.
The two are a part of a four member gang who snatched a Toyota taxi cab in their latest robbery attempt.
The Cab with registration number GC 4728-12, green and yellow was snatched from the owner at Tema.
The Accra Regional Police CID Patrol Team while on patrol duties, intercepted the stolen car and arrested two occupants - Yaw Dormekpor, 32 years and Desmond Bimpeh, 22 years.
But the deceased who goes by the first name Grant and one other escaped arrest to a hideout at Abeka Lapaz,Accra.
Acting on intelligence, the police traced their location and the robbers seeing the police opened fire on them.
In the exchanges, Grant alias Francis was injured. He died while being conveyed to the Police Hospital for treatment.
