The stage is set for an entertaining Caf Confederation Cup preliminary round second leg between Ghana’s AshantiGold and Akonangui FC of Equatorial Guinea on Saturday after the first leg result left the tie on tenterhooks.
The 1-1 draw in Equatorial Guinea meant that AshantiGold have the luxury of one away goal scored which means they will qualify with a draw (0-0) or an outright win.
Akonangui, on the other hand, need a high scoring draw (2-2 or higher) or a win to keep their African dream alive.
The winners of this fixture progress to face RS Berkane of Morocco in the next round.
WHAT IS THE KICKOFF TIME?
The match is at exactly 15:00 GMT and will take place at the Lenclay Stadium in Obuasi.
TEAM NEWS
Da Rocha will be happy to have Appiah Maccarthy and Amos Kofi Nkrumah from injuries.
Akonangui have no reported injury or suspension.
RECENT FORM
Ashantigold have recorded two wins and a draw from their last five games. Their 2-0 win over Aduana stars was perhaps the major highlight of their run.
Richard Osei Agyemang has been in top form for the Miners. “The Commander” as he is affectionately called by his teammates has been instrumental in his team’s run. He scored in Equatorial Guinea.
Akonangui have not been involved in as many competitive games of note. Their major highlight of the year was their 2-0 Equatoguinean cup final win over Estrella Roja.
Diosando Mbele did find the net in the first leg and will be eager to add to his tally on Saturday.
MATCH FACTS
Akonangui were last involved in a major club CAF Competition (CAF Champions League) five years ago and they lost to Astres FC in a two-legged tie.
Akonangui last played in the CAF Confederations Cup in 2008 and were comfortably beaten by Maniema Union over two legs.
Ashantigold last made an appearance in the CAF Confederations Cup in 2011 and were knocked out of the first round by Etoile de Sahel (4-2 on aggregate).
