The Most Rev. Peter Kwasi Sarpong, Archbishop of the Kumasi Archdiocese at the weekend ordained seven deacons and a priest at
the Saint Paul’s Catholic Church at Amakom in Kumasi.
The seven deacons have completed their training at the St. Paul’s Major Seminary at Cape coast in the Central Region and are expected to be ordained into priesthood in six months time, while Rev. Gabriel Kofi Sekyere, who became a deacon in June last year was also ordained as a priest into the Kumasi Archdiocese.
The new deacons are Francis Appiah Kubi, Patrick Baffour Akoto, Anthony Amponsah Afriyie, Patrick Kofi Buadu, Emmanuel Ayi, Benjamin Nkrumah and Anthony Owusu Boateng.
Ordaining them, the most Rev. Peter Kwasi Sarpong charged them to be guided by the Holy Spirit in all their endeavours.
He called on the deacons to be dedicated and committed to the job they have chosen to do, adding, ”as ministers of the gospel a lot of people would come to you with their problems seeking support, try as much as possible and help them”.
Archbishop Sarpong urged them to eschew the crave for wealth and money but be selfless and be ready to serve the congregation and other people for the benefit of the society in which they lived.
He appealed to them to emulate The Apostle Paul, who eschewed all forms of enjoyment, luxury and gave his whole life to the work of the lord and called on parents and the congregation to pray for their priests and give them all the needed support to enable them to lead the church.
Deacon Anthony Amponsah Afriyie on behalf of his colleagues thanked the Archbishop, the entire Clergy and the congregation for the honour done them and pledged to serve diligently in honour of God.Source: GNA
