The new Chief Executive of Volta River Authority (VRA), Kirk Cofie, says he will focus on the development of thermal power to help make the country energy sufficient.

Mr. cofie was earlier this month appointed as the chief executive of the state power generator taking over from Kweku Awotwi.

The country still has a challenge in providing the required energy to meet the needs of industries, businesses and domestic consumers.

Some analysts have suggested that Mr. Cofie’s plan to focus on thermal energy would not go down well with Ghanaians because of the cost and the effect on environment.

But the Chief Executive of the Authority maintains thermal energy is the way to go if the country's rising energy needs must be adequately met.
