Egypt's national team climbed 13 places to 38th in FIFA's world rankings for November, published Thursday.
The Pharaohs beat Ghana 2-1 at home this month in the Africa playoff for the 2014 World Cup but lost on aggregate after their first-leg 6-1 away defeat in Kumasi.
American manager Bob Bradley has been sacked after failing to see the Pharoahs into the World Cup. Former assistant coach Shawky Gharib has been hired in his place.
Egypt ranks fifth among African countries, after Ivory Coast, Ghana, Algeria and Nigeria.
The Black Stars of Ghana dropped to 24th position but still remained second in Africa in the ranking released on Thursday morning.
Gharib was among the technical staff, under Hassan Shehata, that helped Egypt win three successive Africa Cup of Nations trophies, in 2006, 2008 and 2010, but that failed to end Egypt's absence from the World Cup since 1990.
Under their lead, the Pharaohs made it to the world's top 10 in FIFA global rankings.
Spain leads an unchanged top four, ahead of Germany, Argentina and Colombia. After Portugal, Uruguay is number six, followed by Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands and Brazil.
