Dr. Kofi Apraku, a presidential hopeful, has been summoned before the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over his recent scathing comments about the party.
According to Wednesday's edition of the Daily Guide newspaper, the invitation has been extended to him for his recent comments which have generated heated controversy within the NPP.
At a forum organized by the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy of the NPP in Kumasi, Dr. Apraku asked party supporters to elect what he called ‘a right leader’ to ensure victory in the 2016 elections.
According to him, a right leader would help transform and improve the fortunes of the NPP and save it from losing power again.
Dr Apraku, who had already expressed interest in running for the Presidential slot of the party has since come under a barrage of attacks from party members for the comments.
He ws thought to be undermining the party's Presidential candidate in the 2012 elections, Nana Akufo-Addo, in order to have an upper hand.
Dr Apraku, who was Campaign Manager for Akufo-Addo in the 2008 election has stood his grounds, justifying his position with the explanation that NPP has suffered defeats in the last two presidential elections and should not suffer another in the 2016 elections.
