President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that he thought the New Patriotic Party was joking with their concerns over the 2012 elections until they petitioned the Supreme Court over the results.
Explaining to the people of the Brong Ahafo region, why it has taken him over a year to thank them after the polls, President Mahama stated that he wanted the Supreme Court to decide on the election petition before he embarked on a Thank You tour.
“During the 2012 elections, the people Brong Ahafo did something special for me and the NDC. Immediately after the elections, we [NDC] should have come here to thank you but you all know what happened” President Mahama said.
He added that “our colleagues in the NPP did not agree with God’s blessing that I become President of this nation, initially I thought they were joking, I thought it was just empty threats but eventually they petitioned the Supreme Court and after eight months the Supreme Court endorsed my Presidency”
President Mahama also told the people of Brong Ahafo at a Durbar that his vision is to ensure that Ghana builds enough energy capacity in order to export by 2015.
According to him, the coming on stream of the Bui Dam marks the end of erratic power supply in the country.
President Mahama Thursday inaugurated the final phase of the Bui Hydroelectric Power Project at Bui in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
Mr Kufuor, together with some of the Energy Ministers who served in his government, joined President Mahama at the inauguration of the 533 megawatts dam.
