The National Democratic Congress has taken credit for the “impressive” turnout in a recently conducted limited voter registration exercise.
At a news conference Thursday, Chairman of the opposition party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, said but for their insistence that the Electoral Commission uses the Biometric Verification Device, the number of registered voters would not have been 1.2million.
“One of the reasons that enabled the EC to reach the 1.2 million voters was the EC’ use of the Biometric Verification Device instead of the use of the Voter Management System originally planned.
“The Voter Management System was going to register people only at the District centers but based on our insistence and advise, they reverted to the use of the BVDs which increased the numbers to 1.2m,” he boasted.
The Limited Voter Registration which ended on June 24, 2019, afforded Ghanaians who had turned 18 years since the last registration exercise, as well as those who, for one reason or another, have never registered, to do so.
