National Youth Organizer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan has told Citi News, the party’s former Presidential Candidate, Dr. Edward Mahama will be more than welcome to contest on the party’s ticket again in 2016.
This follows Dr. Mahama’s declaration that he will launch a comeback in 2016 to lead the PNC after four unsuccessful attempts to become President on the ticket of the party.
Speaking to Citi News Mr. Ramadan described Dr. Mahama as the best candidate for the party in 2016.
He alleged that some members of the party have “regretted voting for Hassan Ayariga” because he has diminished the PNC’s chance of winning elections in Ghana.
According to him, the party's 2012 presidential candidate, Hassan Ayariga “is welcome to run if he so pleases but I really doubt whether the delegates of the party will really give him the mandate to run on the ticket of the PNC.”
Mr. Ayariga was elected the presidential candidate of the PNC in the lead up to the 2012 general elections.
He however came under severe criticism from a cross section of the general public and some members of his party after what most people described as an abysmal performance at the Institute of Economic Affairs’ (IEA) presidential debate.
Mr Ayariga has also faced a series of allegations that he is in bed with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He polled less than 1 percent in the 2012 Presidential elections.
