Mr. Daniel Owiredu, Executive Vice President Operations of Golden Star Resources Ltd. has been promoted to Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Golden Star Resources Ltd
The appointment took effect on January 1, 2014.
In his announcement of Mr Owiredu’s promotion on Monday January 6, 2014, Sam Coetzer, President and CEO of Golden Star, said: “I am very pleased to make this announcement as Daniel’s leadership, contribution, and commitment to GSR have been instrumental to the Company’s transformation to a lower cost gold producer.”
He also placed on record Mr. Owiredu’s extensive experience in the mining industry which has significantly contributed to mining in Ghana in the discharge of his duties as the current President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
In his new role of EVP and COO of Golden Star Resources, Mr. Owiredu will become a strategic advisor to the President and CEO of Golden Star and the Board. This change is also expected to provide for more timely decisions being made at the Company’s operations in Ghana.
“The Company will continue in 2014 with the critical job of focusing on optimizing our assets, reducing our cost structure and focusing on near term cash flow,” a statement to announced Mr Owiredu’s noted.
