The IB Class of 2020 of Tema International School (TIS) will stage an adaptation of Efua Sutherlands ‘The Marriage of Asansewa’ on November 1 and 2.
The stage play by students and staff celebrates Ghanaian culture through storytelling, music and dance, and subtly criticises society’s never-ending craving for materialism and disregard for due diligence.
It will be held at the Secondary Campus of Tema International School, Tema Community 21 and will begin at 7 pm on both days.
Tickets go for GHC20 for children and GHC 40 for adults and can be purchased at the school’s reception and front gate.
Last year, patrons of the National Theatre of Ghana were kept stage-bound to TIS’ adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
The annual play aims to raise funds for students’ community service initiatives and projects.
Said projects include Breast Cancer Awareness; We are Us (Autism Awareness); Climate Change Awareness/Action; Handwashing Awareness by Interact Club; Construction of libraries and schools; Pen in a box – Supplying stationeries for school children.
It also includes Opposing Kidnapping with Taekwondo; Building Playgrounds in communities and schools; Partnership with Tetteh Ocloo School of the Deaf and other NGOs to improve Education and Health among Children.
Sickle Cell Awareness, Educom Project; Christmas Outreach; Pen in a Box, Railway Line Street Children, Literacy Programs; and Red Cross First Aid Awareness Campaign are also on the list of projects.
