The Founder and Leader of Anointed Chapel International, Francis Antwi, popularly known as Reverend Obofour, has been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command for asking one of his congregants to smoke a banned substance in church.
Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanug gave the directive after a video that captured the pastor directing the church member to smoke dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (wee) openly in the church went viral.
Mr Antwi was arrested on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, and has since been granted police inquiry bail for further investigation, Daily Guide reports.
During the service, Rev Obofour asked if anyone in the church auditorium had marijuana and a man elected to step forward and produced a small box, which he claimed contained one roll of wee.
The pastor asked the man to light the substance and smoke for him to verify if it was truly ‘wee’ so he could deliver him from the smoking habit.
The man obliged by smoking the banned substance openly in the church.
The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Kwabena Danso also said that on October 29, 2019, the Regional Command received a directive from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to invite the Reverend for questioning.
“Reverend Obofour was accordingly invited and he reported at the Regional Command on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, with his counsel,” he said.
He said he was made to write his caution statement.
Reverend Obofuor said while in the spiritual realm, the Holy Spirit directed him to deliver a congregant who was in the habit of smoking wee.
The Reverend added that he became aware of his act of deliverance after the church service and as such, it was a spiritual direction.
Inspector Danso said the matter is still under investigation and those involved are yet to be invited for questioning.
