It has emerged that some rice importers in the country have reportedly withdrawn all advertisements from Accra-based Citi FM.
The companies have also cancelled their contracts with OmniMedia, the station's parent company.
It follows a campaign launched by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the media house, Samuel Attah-Mensah, popularly called ‘Sammens’, for Ghanaians to consume locally-produced rice.
The campaign dubbed: ‘Operation Feed Yourself’ launched on Monday, November 18, spread across the country after the CEO posted on his social media handles how some local rice farmers in the Northern Region had not been able to sell their produce since the market is saturated with imported rice. The action by Sammens, intended to create awareness on the need to buy made in Ghana rice, is seen by the foreign rice importers as an agenda to collapse their businesses. But, Sammens in an interview on Adom FM said the decision by the companies to withdraw their business with the station was a “big deal” to the station but he describes it as a big win for Ghana..... And all the companies that advertise imported Rice on Citi FM withdrew their ads and cancelled the contracts. Big deal? Ghana wins! ðŸ™
