Wolo has won the 2019 award for ‘Social Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the maiden edition of the NiBS Ghana Innovation Awards ceremony held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra on Friday.
The Awards is an annual comprehensive awards programme instituted in 2019, to recognize private and public sector organizations, teams, and individuals who demonstrate the core values of innovation in all its dimensions.
Wolo is a comprehensive E-learning project, designed to provide education and skills training. The project employs both online and offline technologies to deliver learning experiences to millions of Africans with limited access to educational opportunities.
Jackie Ankrah, the Corporate Affairs Director for Wolo, who received the award, was full of joy; “it is most gratifying and deeply encouraging to see our hard work pay off,” she said.
“E-Learning is the future of education and we at Wolo are proud to be pioneers of this exciting future, where students can learn anywhere, at any time and at their own pace without the confinement of traditional classrooms or any other barriers.”
Accompanying Ms Ankrah at the awards ceremony, was Augusta Lartey, winner of the 2019 AU best teacher prize and a proud member of the Wolo team of teachers.
According to Ms. Ankrah, Wolo is working to become the leading E-Learning Platform in Africa; providing quality and affordable education through the use of cutting-edge technology.
She admits that “the road has not been easy and many more challenges lie ahead,” but she is confident and says, “we are bent on setting new teaching standards in Ghana and beyond and offering everyone including students in the remotest part of Ghana, equal access to excellent tuition.”
The Nobel International Business School (NIBS) Ghana Innovation awards seeks to build a national drive for innovation through national recognition, dialogue, and knowledge building and sharing.
High-performing individuals, groups, and organizations that develop innovative products, services, business models, and implement creative organizational initiatives are celebrated for their achievements.
