The Head Pastor of Believer’s House of Worship, Rev Abraham Lamptey, has tasked award show organisers to hand over the nomination of Gospel artistes and songs to church leaders.
According to him, for the right choices to be made, the responsibility should be handed over to churches and pastors since Gospel Music is solely a Christian thing.
“You bring your nomination list, give it to some pastors you can trust and let them select whoever they think has spoken about Christ in the gospel and let them get back to you with their winners,” he told Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Wednesday.
Rev Lamptey stated that many people on the award scheme board may be Christians but they may have very little knowledge of what Gospel should be, lyrically.
“The fact that you have the bible does not mean you know God, you can quote from Genesis through to revelations, it doesn’t mean you know God.”
“Why don’t the organisers put together the categories and give it to those who are specialists in the various fields to pick who they think wins and they can focus on the instrumentals,” he added.
However, President of the Creative Arts Council, Mark Okraku Mantey, strongly disagrees explaining that, the selection of songs for nominations is technical.
He stated that every genre of music is driven by rhythm and not its message.
Mr Okraku Mantey added that “apart from Gospel that the church has been able to put on us that when it comes to that its not the rhythm its the message.”
“But technically, music is what we call the rhythm or the beat. We’ve been mixing religion wth the trade music, this is a problem.”
He added that it is the instrumentations that describe a music genre hence unless Gospel music is taken out of mainstream music, the selection process can never go to pastors.
“Also, what makes you think that that a pastor who is selecting for us is righteous,” he quizzed.
