The Head of JoyNews’ Security Desk, Gifty Andoh Appiah, has been recognised by the Ghana-United States Security Governance Initiative, for her works.
The SGI-CSDS Africa Prize was given to Ms Appiah for being the 2019 Border Reporter of the Year for undertaking a project which saw her assess security at the country’s borders.
The initiative is a partnership between the US and Ghanaian governments, aimed at improving the effectiveness of Ghana’s security sector and enabling the conditions for national prosperity.
The United States also has SGI partnerships with Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and Tunisia.
Under SGI, in 2016 Ghana and the U.S. signed a Joint Country Action Plan (JCAP), which identified three priority areas of the partnership: Maritime Security, Border Management and Integration, and Cybercrime and Cybersecurity.
